Ward 10 Candidate disappointed that 680 News and the Toronto Star will be holding Mayoral Debate during Jewish Holiday PDF Print E-mail
Thursday, 09 September 2010 01:53

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

TORONTO, September 8, 2010 – Ward 10 candidate Jarred Friedman is extremely disappointed that 680 News and the Toronto Star have decided to proceed with their Mayoral debate during the Jewish High Holiday of Rosh Hashana (Jewish New Year), which begins at sundown this evening.

“I am quite shocked that 680 News and the Toronto Star have decided to schedule this event on eve of the holiest Jewish Holiday.” said Jarred Friedman, candidate for Ward 10 – City Council “I would have thought that 680 News would be more sensitive to Canada’s largest Jewish community and schedule the event next week. I have called 680 News, The Toronto Star and all Mayoral Candidates to voice my outrage. Unfortunately, I do not think anything can be done at this point. I would have also hoped that the Mayoral candidates would have taken this important religious holy day for many of their constituents into consideration, and ask that the debate be rescheduled.”

Jarred holds degrees in both Political Science and Urban and Regional Planning. He is an experienced Construction Project Coordinator and City Planner. Jarred has worked on numerous political campaigns, and is a Former Executive Member of a York Centre Riding Association. Jarred also speaks four languages: English, French, Hebrew and Yiddish.

Letter to Ward 10 Candidates concerning Jewish Holidays PDF Print E-mail
Thursday, 19 August 2010 01:08

Fellow Candidates,

I am sure you are all aware that there have been concerns raised with regards to campaign signs being erected during the Jewish Holidays of Shemini Atzeret (Sept. 29-30), Simchat Torah (Sept. 30- Oct. 1) and Shabbat (Oct. 1-2).

I propose that we all agree formally, not to put up any signs from September 30, 2010 to October 3 2010. Further, I suggest we write a letter as a group to the City of Toronto’s Elections Office proposing that they also respect the Jewish High Holidays and encourage other candidates to do the same.

I look forward to your support on this issue.

Sincerely,

Jarred Friedman,

Candidate, Ward 10 – City Council

Making sure our tax dollars are spent wisely at city hall is perhaps the perfect starting point for Jarred Friedman.

“We need accountability at city hall in terms of how our money being spent, especially with regards to where it’s being allocated,” Friedman tells Shalom Life. “When you have someone who is going to hold town hall meetings in your area, you will have a bigger voice, and I don’t think that was happening here.”

Case in point, Toronto’s recent Pride Parade. Friedman was active in trying to get this money withdrawn from Pride for allowing the use of the term “Israeli Apartheid”). “This year it wasn’t possible,” he says. “But next year it could be.”

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

TORONTO, July 29, 2010 – Local resident Jarred Friedman has announced today his intentions to seek the City Council Office for Ward 10.

“I am very excited to announce my intentions to represent the constituents of Ward 10. As a Professional Planner, I gained an understanding of the importance of having citizens be a part of the planning process in order to help shape the community they would like to see in the future,” said Jarred Friedman, candidate for Ward 10 – City Council “Unfortunately, I believe the City has not fully engaged or given the tools to its citizens to actually to do so. It is my goal, as the future City Councillor of Ward 10, to reengage the community and allow them to become an intrinsic part of development process.”

“ My platform also includes rolling back the Municipal Land Transfer Tax, improving existing transit services, making garbage collection an essential service and bringing back accountability to City Hall – especially when it comes to how the City spends its citizen’s tax dollars.”
